Acronis Migrate Easy
This is my latest adventure with Windows Vista. I was called upon to repair a computer with a failing hard drive that still had data on it. Since I was not on a time schedule for this repair, I decided to try some alternatives to just pulling the data and installing fresh on a new hard drive. I did purchase a new hard drive, but I was determined to retain the user's previous files and environment.
I found a new tool from Acronis Migrate Easy, which after installing on the failing system, prompted me to burn a boot CD to run the migration. Everything progressed smoothly, and seemed to be running well. However, I made a critical error: I did not create a restore point. Since all seemed well, I uninstalled Migrate Easy and rebooted. This is when the real problems started.
