Display Myths Shattered: How Monitor & HDTV Companies Cook Their Specs | Maximum PC
A very interesting article came to my attention today, related to one of my favorite topics, television and monitor screens. As has been addressed before, there are so many specifications that can mislead the consumer as they try to make as good a decision as possible. Unfortunately, the companies that produce screens know this, and do what they can to obscure what may likely be an inferior image with what seem to be excellent specifications. One of the resources that I use extensively is a company called DisplayMate Technologies Corporation. They're business is to evaluate the state of the display industry, applying good scientific rigor to these evaluations. A recent article (2010/05/18) at MaximumPC drew attention to the fact that much of what people know about televisions and monitors is mere marketing spin to promote one product or another.
