Meebo!
There's something new here at Stuf, something I'm tentatively calling 'Live Stuf'. This is exactly what it looks like, a little Instant Message (IM) chat right on the web page. Who'da thought? Well, the great people over at meebo.com have actually been doing it for a while now, and I've come to really appreciate it. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you've read how I hate to have programs I'm not using running there by the system clock. I won't go into all that again, but I resent having to shut down my IM client when I need its resources. The second problem with most IM clients is that they work only for that network. To talk to people on Yahoo, you have to run Yahoo Messenger. To talk to people on MSN, you have to run MSN Messenger. If you have family or friends on AOL, you have to run AIM. To combat this, there are a couple of alternatives, namely GAIM and Trillian, which allow you to talk to people on several different networks. These are good solutions, but I still have to run a client on my system. Third, if I am at a friend's place, or on a public computer somewhere, my client is not. Meebo to the rescue! It's IM in a web page, and you can talk to SIX different networks, and all you need to do is open a browser on any computer with Internet access. Give it a try! Plus, if you're here, I might be too. Let's chat!
