Who's Reading Your email?

The security of email is often compared to sending a postcard. Anyone who sees the message is going to be able to read it. That's why you should never reveal sensitive data such as your social number, a credit card, or anything else that could potentially be damaging to you. There are several very interesting and informative articles on Wikipedia about email; how it works, and why email privacy is an ever increasing concern.
What email Is
email Privacy
I started looking into this several years ago, as there were times when I had the need/desire to send a secure document to someone. Back then, I found out the easiest and best way was to get a certificate proving I was who I said I was, and having the person I wanted to send secure information to get one as well. Once we each had these certificates, then I could encrypt the message, and only myself and my intended recipient would have access to our communication. The problem back then was that the only places that I could find certificates were charging at least $20 per year! Needless to say, I didn't have that big of a need to send secure messages. Then I looked into it again today. Now there is a company named COMODO that is giving away certificates for encrypting email for free! Now there's never a reason to send an insecure email containing potentially damaging information ever again. If you use Outlook Express, the installation and use couldn't be easier. Just go to this registration site, and get the certificate, then follow the instructions here. I hope some of you will take advantage of this. Enjoy your privacy and peace of mind as you send secure messages. Let me know what you think!
