25% of Internet Computers Zombies?
Just in case you thought my last post was a bit dramatic and overstated...
Vint Cerf, one of the founders of the Internet as we know it believes that my headline may be the unfortunate truth. He has called the spread of 'botnets' in the Internet as nothing less than a pandemic. Windows computers are notoriously vulnerable, especially if you don't keep your antivirus software current, and pay no attention to the state of Internet security, through this or other news sources. Windows Vista, due out this month, is considerably more secure. Despite this, many illegal copies are already available online! Of course, these come with spyware and security vulnerabilities installed.
I've worked on two computers in the last week which had only barely out of date antivirus solutions on them. Both of them were so infected that the only way to resolve the situation was to completely re-install Windows. It's scary out there, people!
Until next time, make sure your antivirus is up to date!
